April 6, 2018: The Arecibo Observatory celebrated the transition to a new management and operation team on Friday, April 6 with a short ceremony and symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony.

After four decades under the administration of Cornell University and six years under the consortium of SRI International, Universities Space Research Association (USRA) and the Universidad Metropolitana (UMET), the Arecibo Observatory (AO) has a new management team, a collaboration between the University of Central Florida (UCF), UMET and Yang Enterprises, Inc.

As the new transition evolves, the Observatory’s mission remains the same: We strive to understand the mysteries of science in radio astronomy, planetary radar and atmospheric and space sciences, keeping at the forefront how nature and human knowledge continue to evolve.

More than 100 staff and guests attended the ceremony on Friday, which included representatives from UCF, UMET, Yang Enterprises, Inc., and SRI International.
